  7.     Hollywood loves to play a game called What's Wrong with
  8. this Picture? You take a big-budget movie, wait for its release
  9. date to be postponed, then call it the next Heaven's Gate, a
  10. legendary flop. Hence Billy Bathgate, starring DUSTIN HOFFMAN
  11. and LOREN DEAN and originally due in July, becomes Billygate.
  12. But industry gossip aside, Bathgate's director, Robert Benton,
  13. is bullish. "It's an extraordinary story," says Benton. "It's
  14. unlike any gangster film you've ever seen." Why the delay? An
  15. unrealistic release date and routine reshoots. Nobody said the
  16. game was fair.
